What’s the Best Floor Tile for Your Kitchen?

Porcelain and ceramic tiles are very similar. Both come either unglazed or glazed and are made from clay mixtures fired at high temperatures. However, there are some differences:

  • Stone floor tiles. They are made from natural stone, like marble, travertine, limestone, granite and slate. Stone can be honed or polished. Polished ones are slippery when wet, but are very shiny and beautiful, while the honed type don’t look attractive as the polished one but prove more traction. Most of them are porous, which means they need to be refinished with a quality stone sealer every two or three years.

  • Porcelain floor tiles. They are a great choice for high-traffic areas, bathrooms and kitchens. Unglazed ones has color added to the clay mixture, while glazed ones has a glass like coating applied during firing to produce colored surface. This material is difficult to install and requires experience and special tools.
